The call came out of the blue. It was Ferrari, and calls from that direction, for good or for ill, are rarely dull.

‘We’re about to put the 296 GTB to bed for the winter. Would you like it for a few days before we do?’

Would I like it? There’s still a part of me that, on receipt of such news, still feels like a 10-year-old being asked if he’d like a date with Farrah Fawcett. Yes, I think I probably would like it. Quite a lot.
