Confessions of a Car Addict: MG ZT

I’m a sucker for a low mileage car. Though some would say I’m just a sucker. I paid £2200 for this rather sorry-looking MG ZT, a sum that would quite easily buy you a decent, mildly worn runner. For my money I got a car with no MoT, no vital life signs, a headlining well on the way to draping the seats beneath and body panels peeling from the effects of being left to stew for many seasons under a car cover. And once said cover had disintegrated, the effects of sun, rain and UV light too.

Not much going for it then, except that when a battery was connected the odometer read just 6391 miles. Which could, of course, be incorrect. Still, when I came across the Facebook Marketplace ad, I was intrigued. The car was ‘part of an old boy’s collection’, said the words, ‘and this was the gem’. I wondered what his other cars must have been like.

It had been off the road since 2008, partial proof of that fact being it had had only one MoT in 2007, at which point it had travelled only 6052 miles. Apart from its incredibly light use, the seller reckoned that best part of the car was the underside, described as ‘very, very good’.
