Our cars: Aston Martin DB12 S

‘Into each life some rain must fall.’ Thus spake Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in his 1842 poem The Rainy Day. He could have been talking about the downsides of living with a car as generally sublime as the Aston Martin DB12 S it is my good fortune to have parked outside for a few months.

Its enduring qualities, the obvious stuff I guess you could call it, are precisely that. I never walk past it without looking. To me it is the best looking car on sale. And its ability to transform itself from so sleek, svelte and loping, to a snarling, savage beast, all at the pull of paddle and press of a pedal has something of the apex predator about it.

It will also be a very interesting car to compare to the new and even more expensive Bentley Supersports in the unlikely event an example of the sold out car becomes available over here. Having driven it, I think it’s likely to be the car’s closest rival, but as my experience was limited to lapping Laguna Seca, I can’t say for sure. But I’d love to find out.
