The underrated supercar

It still seems strange to me that in over a century of its existence, BMW has to date made just one classical, multi-cylindered, mid-engined, rear-drive supercar. Even stranger that the car, the M1, is now 40 years old. Then again, in period the car was a sales disaster and a profound disappointment on the track for which it had been conceived. So perhaps we can forgive BMW for not wanting to burn its fingers again.
