Gold rush

Much like Percy and Baldrick cunningly melting down base metals and jewellery in an attempt to create gold, restomod companies are springing up like whack-a-moles, hoping to find the elusive alchemy of old and new that will lead to success and riches.

So when I discovered, halfway down the press release, that the fantastic looking Halcyon remastered Rolls-Royce Corniche was electric, my heart sank. The raw materials were all there – timeless elegance, engineering excellence and peerless brand equity. But in the quest for automotive gold, had this group of plucky young boffins only succeeded in creating a nugget of purest green?

To find out, I zoomed down to Box Hill in Surrey to spend an afternoon with two of Halcyon’s three founders, Matthew Pearson and Charlie Metcalfe. And the car, of course.
