His public persona is now of Trump fanboy and financier, the billionaire tech bro libertarian who flirts with controversial political causes. To adoring technophiles and eco-conscious liberals (i.e. Tesla owners), Elon Musk has morphed from superhero to supervillain. Just last weekend as I write, tens of thousands of Americans publicly and noisily protested him and his fellow billionaire political boss Donald Trump.
Like the fastest Teslas, Musk has apparently gone into Ludicrous Mode. Tesla sales and share price have dropped accordingly.
First, let us celebrate why Elon Musk is the most influential car figure of the 21st century, and may turn out to be one of the most influential ever, bearing comparison with Karl Benz and Henry Ford. He is also the richest ever – indeed, the richest man who ever lived – as well as one of the most controversial, and perhaps the boldest.
