I was wrong about the Jaguar Type 01. The first time I saw the renders of that Miami (not Barbie) Pink concept car that broke the internet, I was very impressed, because I thought JLR had done something really interesting from a vehicle architecture point of view.

You see, I was convinced the engineers had put the battery – or at least a good chunk of it – under that endlessly long and billiard-table wide bonnet – hence achieving that chopped-top ultra-low roofline and (I assumed) solving the perennial BEV problem of how to offer a sportily-low seating position. Now that, thought I, is an interesting and brave choice.

I was wrong – they hadn’t. It turned out that the car has a by-now-conventional battery-under-the floor layout, and that, while there’s a small section of battery power located in the bulkhead, the enormous schnozz houses merely the front motor, some power electronics and presumably lots of HVAC gubbins. Not even a frunk – just a cubby for the charge cable, apparently.
