Underrated: Honda NSX (NC1)

The original NSX changed everything. It made the supercar approachable, usable, and in a way affordable. It redefined what a supercar could be, and once Honda had unleashed it in 1990, at a stroke making supercars less intimidating yet no less special to drive or own, the likes of Porsche and Ferrari had no choice but to react – once they’d picked themselves up off the floor.

I remember going on the European launch of the original NSX in 1990, held at the Nürburgring no less, having had very little experience of supercars beyond the odd Lotus Esprit Turbo and a few 911s. Yet despite this, it was obvious within seconds that the NSX was different: a very special car indeed.

Apart from anything else, it was just so beautifully made. It felt as if its entire core had been forged from some kind of brand new material that was stiffer and lighter than any substance hitherto known to mankind. It felt unbreakable.
