Dear Colin, What is the correct etiquette for when you need to charge an EV at the house of a friend or family? Is it impolite even to ask, and how should one pay? In cash or kind? Jemina Carson

Dear Jemina,

One of the few people I know with a home charger is our Mr Frankel and I wouldn’t dream of turning up at his house in an EV as he would think badly of me. However, a friend locally has a charger that I’ve used in an emergency (I have no off-street parking yet I regularly test drive EVs). I haven’t offered to pay but I would now that energy prices are so high. I’d prefer to give him a bottle of wine rather than trouble him to work out the cost of the electricity that I’ve used. This is certainly going to be an issue in the future.
