The lessons of Suzuka

I’ve just found a beer and am now sitting with it, decompressing in my seat on the Shinkansen, Japan’s bullet train that’s taking most of the F1 paddock back to Tokyo, after a very bizarre day at Suzuka.

The forecast coming into the weekend predicted the odd shower for race day, but it was pretty evident on Sunday morning that this was going to be a long and wet afternoon. And so it proved, more than most could have possibly guessed.

You can all read race reports or watch it back for yourselves, so rather than going over at the race itself, I’m going to dive into the two main topics now dominating the headlines. First, there’s the uproar arising from footage of Pierre Gasly missing a recovery vehicle that was on the track: it has created a sense of genuine shock and anger.
