Nervous tension

Do I join the group of people doing yoga warm up exercises or should I go somewhere private to get the temperatures and pressures up? I can’t decide because my nerves are all over the place. I’ve never done a half marathon before and I only entered the Hampton Court half because a couple of mates talked me into joining them.

Needless to say they’ve both bottled it and I’m here on my own. The furthest I’ve run is 10km and that was a few years back, but I do a Park Run every week so I’m in reasonable shape.

But why the terrible butterflies? It’s not as if running a half marathon is dangerous. I could twist an ankle or pull a muscle perhaps, and as far as I know my ticker is in good shape so I’m not worried about a heart attack. I’m as nervous at the start of this run as I used to be before the start of a motorcycle race.
