For most people one successful career is enough, but Jonathan Palmer is on his third. He started out as junior doctor, became fixated with racing, did seven seasons in Formula 1, winning the Jim Clark Trophy for drivers of naturally aspirated cars in 1987.

He was also highly successful in Group C sportscar racing, winning the 1984 Brands Hatch 1000km and coming second at Le Mans in 1985.

After his race career he took over development of the McLaren F1 before starting his most recent career as a motorsport entrepreneur. Today his MSV company owns six circuits including Brands Hatch, Donington Park, Oulton Park and the Bedford Autodrome.

Jonathan is a fascinating person to listen to, not just for all that he has achieved but the incisive and always honest way he talks about his life and career on and off the track. His car choices are fascinating and often unexpected. And he leaves you with a sense that despite all he has accomplished and now being in his mid 60s, he’s not done yet, not by a very long way.

His Last Blast conversation with Andrew Frankel is available to listen to here.
