If there’s anywhere else on earth like Montana, I’ve not been there. The fourth largest state in the Union (after Alaska, Texas and California), it is bigger than both Germany and Japan, whose populations number 83 million and 125 million respectively. Montana? Just 1.1 million. The population of Billings, its largest city, is lower than that of Newcastle. Under-Lyme that is, not upon-Tyne.
Out here cows outnumber people by two to one but you don’t even see that many of them, spread as they are over 28,000 ranches. When you sadly drag yourself back to the airport to depart this extraordinary place, you’ll find helpfully located secure bins where you can deposit your bear spray before boarding. Apparently having in your carry-on a liquid powerful enough to fell a starving Grizzly at 100 paces is regarded a poor idea in these parts.
In two days’ driving, not one mile of which was on an Interstate, I put in point-to-point average speeds you’d be surprised and pleased to equal on the autobahn. Bentley had clearly done its research before choosing to launch the Bentayga Speed here, for surely there is nowhere else on Earth better qualified to make the most of its considerable qualities and minimise the impact of its significant weaknesses.
