The lift doors open to reveal a vast, windowless room. Inside are 24 angular projectiles, bathed in stark fluorescent light. Outlandish and otherworldly, they stand motionless and eerily silent, like a snapshot from some dystopian future. But this isn’t Area 51. It’s Studio434.

Hidden in two plain warehouses in north London, Studio434 is Europe’s largest private car collection: nearly 500 cars and counting, many available for hire. The vehicles here are a gloriously eclectic mix, from a Countach 25th Anniversary to an Invacar mobility three wheeler. But I’m here to see the ‘wedges’. And what a strange spectacle they make.
