America, fast – Part two

If you haven’t read it yet, part one of this mini-series documentary telenovela Greek Tragedy explains why on God’s green earth I’d want a Rover SD1 in the first place.

And yet here I was, walking toward the exit of Edmonton International Airport, having flown several hours to pick one up, sight-unseen. The seller would be meeting us at the airport, but first, amongst the limo drivers and their iPads showing their client’s names, I see a handwritten sign, ‘An Angry Italian & The Handsome One’. The latter refers to my podcast co-host and SD1 co-purchaser; the strange man holding the sign was a fan who’d seen our Instagram post and deduced our flight schedule. He gave us red hats – thankfully just ones with a Canadian maple leaf on them – and wished us well. Canadians are weird, but nice.

A short while later, just as the sun was setting, the SD1 arrived. Under its own power, no less. The young seller jumped out, signed some paperwork, and took off.
