‘Nice car. What’s the retail on one of those?’
‘More than you can afford, pal: Ferrari.’
Many of you probably remember that scene, from the 2001 film The Fast and the Furious, in vivid detail: Dom and Brian’s fourth-generation Toyota Supra, lined up next to a Ferrari F355 Spider at the lights, the road ahead clear. Dom closes his laptop, presumably to avoid any ‘Danger to Manifold’ messages from distracting Brian, utters ‘Smoke him’, and the die is cast.
The heavily modified force-fed Supra, unsurprisingly, leaves the F355 in its wake, in a sequence that would propel the popularity of the Toyota to record heights, while further inspiring a new generation of automotive enthusiasts.
