Looking across the Ti platform, it amused me to see so many of my fellow contributors writing about the wonderful cars they’ve owned and the sheer pleasure they got from them. But I’ll be perfectly honest – as someone who’s been fortunate to have experienced the most technologically advanced race cars on the planet and combined that with driving glorious Jaguar E-Types and Ferrari 250 GTOs at the Goodwood Revival, owning a flash road car is not something that ever appealed to me.

I bought and restored a rusty 1999 Rover Mini as a project during lockdown which I have as a bit of a toy to take the kids out to play in, but apart from that, road cars for me have always been about getting from A to B rather than A to A.

At almost every event I go to I am always asked ‘what car do you drive on the road?’ and 99 per cent of people are shocked to hear me say I’ve owned bog standard estate cars now for over a decade. It got as exciting as an Audi RS4 for a while but I spent so much time filling it up I swapped it for a 3-litre twin-turbo diesel A6 within a year!
