In 2004 I was on a business trip to Japan. In those days I had a proper job at Nissan, complete with fancy title, and wore a dark salaryman’s suit and suitably sober tie to the office – especially in Japan, where such things were expected. It was a serious company, and one was expected to look and act accordingly.
