My love for Formula 1 reaches back to the late Eighties when the likes of Prost, Senna, Piquet and Mansell were the stars of the show. They passed the mantle to Schumacher, Hill, Villeneuve and Häkkinen who in turn made way for Alonso, Hamilton and Vettel.
For this column, however, I thought I would delve the depths of F1 geekdom for drivers who failed to fulfil their potential or live up to the hype that greeted their arrival in F1. And as the list started to form in my head from when I started watching F1 in 1987, I realised there’s a variety of reasons why these drivers didn’t achieve the success their talent deserved.
