Dear Chris,

I’ve lost count of how many I’ve owned. At least 40, most very ordinary. But which would I like to own again? This brings in the dreaded N-word. Nostalgia. I’m hooked on classic auction sites like The Market and Car and Classic within which great danger lies. I’m currently following a 1967 Sunbeam Alpine MkV. I had one when I was young and it coincided with a favourite girlfriend. What a daft reason for spending a packet on an old nail.

But there is one and that’s my old Datsun 240Z. I had it before I did this job and sold it to a guy who restored it (I then drove it for a story). I can’t think of a car that responds so well to the restomod treatment as the early Z. HOW 348L are you still out there?
