Who is BYD?

Exactly 100 years separates the births of Ford and BYD as car makers. But the parallels between Henry Ford’s early 20th century success and BYD today are striking.

Henry Ford launched his car company in 1903. Wang Chuanfu launched BYD Auto in 2003. Ford grew spectacularly in the early 20th century, just as BYD does in the early 21st.

Ford was the world’s biggest producer of cars with internal combustion engines in the first part of the 1920s. In 2023, BYD is now the world’s biggest producer of electrified vehicles (BEVs and PHEVs).
