The finale to end them all

That was the craziest final 10 minutes to an F1 season I can remember. For decades, anyone who was in Abu Dhabi will be telling their grandchildren how lucky they were to witness such an extraordinary battle between two supremely talented drivers after one of the greatest seasons in F1 history.

Let’s start with the finish. To me the whole thing seemed confusing with the first message that ‘lapped cars will not be allowed to overtake the safety car’ being followed by a second to just the five cars between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen allowing them to unlap themselves. Effectively, that handed the championship to Max. He had fresh soft tyres while Lewis was on worn hards. He had little chance to fight back.
