Alex Brundle

Racing driver

Now a motorsport journalist and broadcaster in everyone’s opinion but his own, Alex still thinks of himself as a racing driver, and will argue with anyone who says he isn’t anymore until they are too tired to continue.

This former Le Mans star turned pundit, commentator and historic racing stalwart has the unfortunate, but luckily marketable trait of having tried to make it so many different ways that he’s driven almost everything, almost everywhere.

This, alongside a literal lifetime embedded in F1, gives Alex’s motorsport ramblings a generous dose of cynicism tempered by an honest, passionate attachment to all things racing.

Professional hero:

On the driving side, that can be found very close to home. On the broadcast side, the marvellously satirical Tour de France introductions of Gary Imlach are immense

First race:

Kart racing at PF International, I spun but beat the other novices!

Perfect road trip:

Between a decent set of hotels on all the roads around the NC500, which are NOT included in the NC500

"I'm quietly dreading an eventual realisation that motorsport peaked in the 1990s when I was about seven, but I'm determined to support that not being the case. The sport of racing cars is ducking and diving to find its place in a modern world, and I’m routinely impressed with how successfully it does so. I’m prepared to dedicate my time to putting people in cars, either literally or vicariously, for as long as it takes to ensure the sport I love continues to thrive"
