BMW M8 Competition review

I’ve been waiting for this car for a while. The first BMW M8 was meant to appear last century, complete with a four-cam, 48-valve 5.6-litre V12. The car was made and tested...

Our Cars: Triumph GT6

Andrew English tells the story of how the GT6 came to be, and his struggles to get his back on the road and fit for purpose

Can it really be a month since we launched The Intercooler website? Actually it’s a month and two days, or high time for an update from us. Hopefully you’ll see we haven’t had our feet up since the website went live on 6 July…

Subscribers will have spotted a new regular series called I Witnessed – we’ve published five stories in the series so far and have more to come shortly. Between them, Ti’s writers have been present for some of the most seismic events to rock the car world in recent times, and in I Witnessed they share their experiences with you.

What exactly was it like to be in the paddock during the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix when Romain Grosjean’s Haas speared into the barriers and burst into flames? What was the tension like as the Porsche factory racing team waited in the paddock at the Nürburgring for Timo Bernhard to reappear in the 919 Evo no-rules prototype, and how did the atmosphere change as the new outright lap record flashed up on the timing screens? How was Ferdinand Piëch, one of the car industry’s shrewdest operators, outmanoeuvred in the tussle to buy Rolls-Royce?

It’s all there in I Witnessed.

We have also been rather busy working on a new series of guest-based podcasts. Called Last Blast, this series will be for Ti subscribers only and it’ll become available next month. We will explain the format in detail later on, but for now we’re delighted to confirm that guests include Sir Chris Hoy, Adrian Newey, Andy Wallace and Jonathan Palmer, among others. Fascinating people from the world of cars whom we’re sure you’ll want to hear from, in other words.

And it doesn’t stop there. We’re working very hard in the background to bring even more illuminating written articles to our website and app – we have twin tests, profile pieces, off-the-wall features and other stories in the works that I know you’ll love reading.

Finally, let me say a huge thank you to everybody who has subscribed to The Intercooler, whether you’ve been with us from the start or you signed up this morning. Without your support none of this would be possible.

All the best,

Dan

There was a time when France built many of the greatest luxury cars in the world. No longer. Andrew English (a Scot) thinks he knows why

Geek Out! Let there be lights

If you knew – as you shortly will – how expensive rear lights are to create, you’d not wonder why small manufacturers try to get them from almost anywhere else. Richard Porter reports
