Never mind the stripped-out interior, the polycarbonate windows or the carbon fibre bonnet. The most amazing thing about the 2009 Renault Sport Megane R26.R is that it exists at all, because there were so many moments during its development when the engineers or product planners could simply have thought, ‘Nope, not worth the hassle’. The six-point harnesses were exactly the sort of hurdle that could have written off the project for good.
