Like the 2008 McLaren MP4-23 or a 2021 Toyota Yaris WRC car or, in fact, a Mitsubishi Evo VIII FQ-400, this article has multiple spoilers. If you are yet to watch the latest Grand Tour special, A Scandi Flick, and you care deeply about having an unsullied, suspenseful watching experience, then perhaps give this a miss, for now. Go and re-read something by David Twohig instead.

Everyone happy? Should I perhaps give it an extra sentence or two just in case anyone has overshot in their enthusiasm and glanced a few lines further down before fully registering the need for caution? Right, that should be enough. You’re here at your own risk now. Which is really what it should say front and centre on the boss of the steering wheel of a Mitsubishi Evo.

In the aforementioned GT episode, James May crashes an Evo VIII. Twice. The first one is by far the bigger impact and (I suspect unlike the second one) clearly unplanned. One doesn’t generally go breaking ribs on purpose, no matter how much Mr Bezos is paying you.
