I know you’re probably here for tales of Bugattis and Bizzarrinis, but I was thinking about the Passat CC the other day. In fact it was just the Volkswagen CC or Comfort Coupé by the time I drove it at the launch of the facelift in 2012. We flew to the South of France on a Thursday and I met Jacky…but I’m getting ahead of myself.

It was a Wednesday in the third week of January. I was sitting at my desk in the Evo magazine office not really doing much work. I was pretending to, but I had my headphones in and the dulcet tones of Becs Williams on Rally Radio were telling me about Special Stage 4 of the Monte Carlo Rally. I was miles away.
