Wrong way up

The route to Formula 1 is well established, writes Dan Prosser. But not everybody took the same path to the top

The real deal?

They really should have charged another £3000. Anyone happy to lay down the requisite £552,000 (once you’ve added VAT at 20 per cent) surely wouldn’t have quibbled...

On 10 August, The Intercooler will be back at Bicester Heritage where we look forward to meeting as many of you as possible. But this isn’t a Sunday Scramble (not least because the 10th will be a Saturday). Instead, it’s PistonHeads’ Annual Service, a gathering of several thousand car enthusiasts and dozens of exhibitors with hundreds of cars on display. It should be a fun day.

Click here to find out more about the event. Tickets cost £20 each, but if you use the discount code Ti10 you’ll get 10 per cent off.

This will be the fourth time we’ve exhibited at Bicester Heritage. Each time so far we’ve managed to bring together several very special cars indeed (some said our display of every Ultimate Series McLaren, including an F1, at the last Sunday Scramble in April was the best in show), all of which means we have a reputation to live up to. The solution? Team up with our brilliant friends at Girardo & Co. and make it their problem instead.

VW Golf GTI Clubsport review

There are a couple of problems with the VW Golf GTI Clubsport. The first is the Honda Civic Type R, which is altogether more rewarding to drive. The second is the VW Golf R...

Going solo

Only one man is known to have driven Le Mans solo. Andrew Frankel tells his story and drives the car in which he did it

Expect good cars and great company

Max Girardo will join Dan and Andrew on stage

The transporter is booked and in the next couple of weeks we’ll agree between us which four or five cars will be loaded onto it early on the morning of the 10th. I suspect the cars will all be red, very beautiful and extremely valuable, but nothing has been decided yet.

Better still, Max Girardo will be joining us on stage in front of a live audience to record a podcast. We’ll be asking him about his distinguished career in the classic car industry during which he’s bought and sold many of the world’s rarest and most valuable cars. Another of our good friends, Jonny Smith of The Late Brake Show, will be on stage during the day too, among others.

If you’re going to be there, please swing by the stage to nod sagely at all the interesting things we have to say and laugh loudly at our jokes. Your support, as ever, is greatly appreciated.
