As it’s Halloween season (Dan’s dressed as a pumpkin and Andrew is either a ghost or he came to work halfway through changing the duvet cover) I want to talk about being scared. Because for the first time in a long time, I was briefly afraid in a car recently.
There were no spiders dangling from rear-view mirrors or vampires kipping in boots. I was simply a passenger in a very, very fast car – an Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro – driven by a very, very fast driver – Nico Hülkenberg.
For a bit of context, I’m usually a pretty good passenger. Just as well really, given that I spent a lot of my early motoring journalism career being driven very quickly around the Bedford Autodrome while looking at timing gear. Granted, John Barker and Dickie Meaden have always had the requisite skills to instil faith, but nonetheless, it wouldn’t have been for everyone.
