This short blog post was originally going to be about Father’s Day and the many reasons why your petrolhead dad would love a gift subscription from you come June 18th. But we’ve just found out The Intercooler has won a couple of very significant awards, and that’s given me a good deal more to write about.

Back to the awards in a moment, because we really do think your car-loving father would enjoy being part of our community. You’ll already know that we publish new articles every day of the working week, while our library of 1000+ stories and more than a million words grows all the time. A gift subscription will give your dad unlimited access to all of that, starting at just £35.99. Choose from 6, 12 or 24 month gift subscriptions – click here for further details.

Give The Intercooler as a gift this Father’s Day

It’s worth noting that unlike regular subscriptions, our gift subscriptions do not auto-renew. What’s more, gifts are activated on the day they are redeemed by the recipient, not the day they are bought. Finally, there’s no deadline for redeeming a gift subscription. We will email you a gift voucher right away for you to share with your dad.

Meanwhile, we’re all a bit bowled over to have won two prizes at the annual Newspress Awards. The Intercooler has been named Automotive Consumer Publication of the Year and Automotive Website of the Year – quite remarkable given that we’re not yet two years old and our website only launched last summer. It seems to me it isn’t the winner that determines the value of an award, but the nominees. And The Intercooler was shortlisted alongside established print and digital publications like Top Gear, Classic Car Weekly, The Car Expert and driving.co.uk, which is The Sunday Times’ dedicated motoring site. I’m not sure the competition could have been any stronger.

The Intercooler has won an award!

The judges, Newspress tells us, were almost unanimous in awarding both prizes. One judge said: ‘The Intercooler takes my vote. A refreshing new approach with some great writers, not just news but informative features and a wide variety of subject matter too. Behind a paywall, it’s worth the investment as it’s ad-free.’ Another added: ‘The Intercooler proves convincingly there is still an appetite – and market – for high-quality writing and expert insight, even in the ever-evolving publishing landscape.’

None of this would have been possible without our loyal subscribers, so a huge thanks to every one of you for believing in what we’re doing with The Intercooler. Nor would it be possible without our wonderful contributors, who continue to produce the most brilliant stories for us week in, week out. Henry Catchpole, Karun Chandhok, Jo Fidalgo, Mel Nichols, Julian Thomson, Ian Callum, Colin Goodwin, Ben Oliver, Andrew English, Steve Sutcliffe, Peter Robinson, Gavin Green, Jim Holder and Edd Straw – we couldn’t be more grateful.

David Twohig is missing from that list because he deserves special mention for being named Automotive Technology Writer of the Year at the same awards. The prize is very much his, but we’re proud that his three submissions were all stories written for Ti.

Finally, our thanks to Treacle Media for designing and building such a beautiful website and for continuing to be wonderful collaborators.
