Out of touch

'You are not playing a game, you are driving a car,' said Simon Clare, Lotus marketing boss at the recent launch of the Emira. As well as being the last Lotus with a petrol engine...

Overrated: Alfa Romeo SZ

Is nothing sacred? Not when Steve Sutcliffe is at the wheel. This time, why a car hailed as Alfa’s best late 20th century effort was actually not nearly good enough

We’re delighted to announce a special event for Ti subscribers, in association with Bicester Motion and JBR Capital. Prepare yourself for a balmy summer evening car meet, running 5-8pm on Thursday 6 August at Bicester Motion.

The centrepiece of the event will be the inaugural Ti Concours d’Appréciation. Say it out loud and you’ll get a sense for what we’re going for. The theme is A motoring life well lived, and we’ll be looking for enthusiast cars that have been used and enjoyed as intended. The judges (that’s us) will be looking for great stories, war wounds and high miles – and prizes will be awarded to the cars that best embody the spirit of the occasion. If that isn’t your car, you are of course very welcome to join us for the evening anyway.

Ti contributors will also be present in force, having brought a selection of their own favourite vehicles to display. Food, drink and ice cream will be available on site.

Scandal! The 1933 Tripoli Grand Prix

The world’s greatest drivers gathered in one of racing’s most glamorous locations. And stories of extraordinary skullduggery have been rife ever since, writes Andrew Frankel

Breakthrough: the automotive microprocessor

You might regard them as the bane of your life on the road. But that doesn’t stop them being absolutely incredible, says David Twohig

Tickets are £10 each, with total numbers strictly limited. Most of the tickets have been sold already, so promptness is recommended. We’ll be contacting ticket buyers directly with details of how to enter your vehicle into the entirely arbitrarily judged concours, should you be so interested.

Here’s the link to purchase tickets. If you are not yet registered with Bicester Motion, you will need to do so before purchase – select ‘Become a member’. It’s free and takes seconds.

We can’t wait to celebrate this passion we all share with our subscribers. Looking forward to seeing you there.

(Oh, and today’s review of the TWR Supercat will go live the moment the embargo lifts at 9am.)
